About Prof. Alessandro Littara
Prof. Alessandro Littara is one of the pioneers of modern phalloplasty: his early work in this field began around 1990, and together with Jörn Ege Siana he decisively advanced and optimized the surgical technique in the late 1990s.
Since then he has dedicated himself internationally to surgical penile enlargement and has continuously refined the technique – with the goal of achieving an effective solution with the greatest possible safety. A central element of his approach is the avoidance of foreign materials. The current guidelines of the European Association of Urology (EAU) on sexual and reproductive health warn against the use of foreign materials in this procedure – a position Prof. Littara has long advocated for.
He trained, among others, under Prof. Fabris and Prof. Miccoli (University of Pisa), Prof. E. Belgrano (University of Trieste), Prof. F. Carmignani (University of Genoa), and Prof. Rigatti (University of Milan); he gained his expertise in urological laser surgery at the Dr. David Matlock Center in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.
He is Medical Director and Chief Physician of the Casa di Cura "Mercurio-Quisisana" in Montecatini Terme, where high-quality andrological, urological, and gynecological procedures are performed – it was here, in his earlier role as Chief Physician of the Department of Medical and Surgical Andrology and Sexology, that he performed his first roughly 1,000 penile enlargement operations. He is also the founder and Medical Director of the "Centro di Medicina Sessuale" in Milan, an interdisciplinary center where urologists, gynecologists, reproductive specialists, sex therapists, and plastic surgeons work together to treat sexual dysfunction and fertility issues.
As an Honorary Professor at the University of Pisa, Department of Uro-Genital Reconstruction, he has for many years been active in research and teaching and leads training at the International Academy of Penoplasty, where he passes on the surgical technique he modified to other surgeons. Through his long-standing international work in research and teaching, he speaks several languages fluently.
Scientific Standards
Prof. Littara places great value on honest, patient-focused treatment supported by scientific evaluation and assessment. He is the author of one of the most comprehensive scientific case studies on surgical penile enlargement: an internationally published retrospective evaluation of 355 anonymized cases, with which he verified his results and made them comprehensible to the academic community.

He maintains a close scientific relationship with the University Hospital of Pisa and, with this study, is considered the author of one of the most extensive scientific works worldwide on surgical penile enlargement, listed in the National Library of Medicine (PubMed). He is named explicitly in connection with surgical penile enlargement in the current EAU guidelines on sexual and reproductive health.
