What an Official Proctor Means
The term proctor is not widely known outside medicine. It refers to a certified instructor, authorised by a medical device manufacturer, who trains other physicians in the use of its products – in real operating theatres, on real patients.
Prof. Fraile Poblador is an official proctor for all three leading manufacturers of penile implants: Boston Scientific, Coloplast, and Promedon. That means he trains physicians in Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Turkey, the USA, the United Kingdom, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, and Spain – in exactly the techniques he himself uses at UGRS.
Anyone who trains other physicians must themselves be at the highest level. This isn't self-promotion – it's simply how the system works.
Surgical Focus Areas
- Penile prostheses: first-time implantation, exchange of hydraulic systems, corrective surgery after incorrectly implanted prostheses
- Artificial urinary sphincter: implantation for urinary incontinence, experience with high-risk patients and in combination with penile prostheses
- Urethral reconstruction: reconstructive procedures including graft surgery
Teaching and Academic Activities
- Instructor for ESGURS – the EAU section for genitourinary reconstructive surgery
- Member of the ESSM scientific committee for reconstructive surgery
- 74 guest lectureships at national and international congresses – with EAU awards
Anyone who trains other physicians in highly complex reconstructive procedures must themselves be at the highest level. This teaching activity is a strong indicator of the level of expertise involved.
Humanitarian Commitment
When his schedule allows, Prof. Fraile Poblador performs free corrective surgery in cooperation with the Catholic Church in Cameroon. That says something about the physician behind the titles.
