Honesty as a Treatment Principle

Surgical penis enlargement is a medical procedure – and, as with any surgical procedure, risks exist. We consider it a matter of course to state them openly. Not to deter, but because informed patients make better decisions.

An honest consultation therefore always includes the question: are the health prerequisites in place, and are the effort and risk in a reasonable proportion to the expected result?

Typical, Temporary Reactions

In the first days and weeks after the procedure, certain reactions commonly occur that are completely normal and subside on their own. These include swelling in the surgical area, a certain feeling of tightness, and minor bruising that can form as part of wound healing. Mild tenderness in the treated area is also not unusual during this phase.

These reactions are a normal part of the healing process and are not a sign of a complication. As a rule, they subside noticeably within the first one to two weeks, so the condition improves markedly over this time.

Possible Complications

In very rare cases, complications can occur after the procedure. These include:

Infections

As with any surgical procedure, there is a small risk of local infection. These are treated with antibiotics and generally heal completely. Careful wound care after the procedure significantly reduces this risk.

Wound-Healing Disorders

In individual cases, the wound may heal slowly or incompletely. Risk factors include smoking, poorly controlled diabetes, or a weakened immune system. These are identified during the initial consultation.

Uneven Results

In such cases, a corrective procedure may become necessary. Experience and a precise surgical technique minimize this risk.

Changes in Sensitivity

Temporary changes in sensitivity in the surgical area are possible. Permanent loss of sensitivity is very rare when the procedure is performed correctly.

Scarring

Every surgical procedure leaves scars. With penis lengthening, these form in the area of the pubic mound and, with proper healing, are not visible under the pubic hair. Noticeable scarring is rare.

Risks From Foreign Materials – and Why We Avoid Them

Procedures that use foreign materials – such as silicone implants not approved in Europe, unapproved gels, or synthetic fillers – deserve a chapter of their own. Such procedures are repeatedly offered on the market, yet they carry risks that the European Association of Urology (EAU) explicitly points out in its current guidelines.

The documented dangers include inflammatory reactions and chronic irritation, which can result from the permanent presence of the foreign material in the tissue. Also described are rejection reactions by the body, as well as possible migration of the material into the surrounding tissue, which can lead to unpredictable results. In addition, hardening and deformation can significantly impair the aesthetic and functional result. In the worst case, severe tissue damage can occur, requiring an extensive and burdensome corrective operation.

At UGRS Center, we have deliberately decided against this path. In the procedures performed by Prof. Alessandro Littara and Dr. med. univ. Roberto Melone, only the body's own materials and reconstructive surgical techniques are used. This approach is not only compliant with EAU recommendations, but also avoids an entire category of risks that are inextricably linked to the use of foreign materials from the outset.

How We Systematically Reduce Risks

The risk profile of a penis enlargement does not depend on the operation alone, but on a carefully considered overall concept that extends far beyond the procedure itself.

The starting point is a careful preliminary discussion in which possible risk factors are systematically identified before any decision is made in favor of the procedure. The surgeons' experience plays an equally central role: over the course of his career, Prof. Alessandro Littara has performed several thousand such procedures, and Dr. med. univ. Roberto Melone, who performs the operation at UGRS Center to the same standard, also brings extensive experience in this highly specialized technique.

In addition, a precise, minimally invasive surgical technique protects the tissue and avoids unnecessary strain on the patient. After the procedure, structured aftercare with clear behavioral recommendations ensures that the healing process proceeds optimally and that possible complications can be detected early. Not least, open communication is, for us, part of a responsible treatment concept – including in cases where we advise against a procedure in an individual case, because it is not the right path from a medical point of view.

When We Advise Against Penis Enlargement

There are situations in which we deliberately recommend not performing a procedure – even if the wish for one exists.

These include, first of all, health-related contraindications that would disproportionately increase the surgical risk. Severely impaired wound healing – for example as a result of pre-existing conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes – can likewise argue against a procedure, as it can significantly jeopardize the course of healing. We also advise against surgery when someone actively smokes and is unwilling to refrain from smoking, at least during the healing phase, since this noticeably impairs blood flow and thus wound healing.

Beyond purely physical factors, there are also reasons to advise against a procedure: if expectations for the result are unrealistic and cannot be met surgically, an operation rarely leads to genuine satisfaction.

This approach is a fixed part of how we understand ourselves: we want to help our patients – and sometimes that means saying no, clearly and honestly.
