Anyone who goes to a doctor with a diagnosis of Peyronie's disease often receives a clear recommendation: a Nesbit procedure or a similar shortening technique. Health insurance covers the cost. The matter seems settled.

And then comes the question: is this really what I want? A procedure that leaves the plaque untreated and shortens the healthy side – for a condition that has already shortened me through scarring?

Many men who come to us are not looking for a cheaper alternative. They are looking for a better one. This page explains what insurance covers, what we offer – and why this difference comes with a price that can be explained.

What Statutory Health Insurance Covers

German statutory health insurance (GKV) recognizes Peyronie's disease (Induratio Penis Plastica) as a condition requiring treatment. Procedures such as the Nesbit operation or the Essed-Schröder technique are frequently covered by statutory insurance – because they are technically simple, cost-effective, and widely used.

What insurance funds is a functional improvement in the sense of straightening. What it does not fund is the more far-reaching goal: length preservation, biological reconstruction, microsurgical precision.

This is not due to a lack of willingness among physicians, but to budget constraints: the funds allocated for this condition are simply not enough for a complex reconstructive operation. Physicians trained within the statutory system have therefore often had no opportunity to gain experience with more demanding techniques.

Treatment Costs at a Glance

All prices include examination, initial consultation, surgery, anesthesia, aftercare, and medical supervision. No hidden costs.

The higher price for corrective surgery reflects the significantly greater effort involved: correcting a plication procedure is not simply reversing a plication suture, but a double reconstruction. The plication procedure has permanently damaged the originally healthy erectile tissue – both sides now need to be reconstructed.

Private Health Insurance – What Is Actually Possible

Many privately insured patients assume that their insurance covers treatment at a private clinic. The reality is more complex.

Most private health insurers in Germany only reimburse costs if treatment takes place in the private ward of a statutory hospital – not in a standalone private clinic. The operating room, staff, and often the senior consultant there are the same as in the statutory sector. There is often no meaningful difference in treatment quality – but there is a difference in reimbursement options.

This is not a criticism of physicians or patients – but there is no point in raising false hopes.

The European Solution – A Little-Known Option

We were not willing to accept that patients are sold insurance policies that don't cover what they believe they cover. That's why we developed a solution based on European law.

As European citizens, patients have the right to receive treatment in other EU countries. Because European law takes precedence, the following applies: patients who choose to be treated at our facility in Spain can – depending on their insurance policy – receive a substantial reimbursement of up to 90%. This sometimes applies even to patients who would receive little or no reimbursement in Germany. Unfortunately, this European route only works for privately insured patients and also requires some patience.
